Hong Kong 1st surch 16c on 18c (Yang 20), tied by B62 obliterator, along with Hong Kong originating c.d.s. (AU 10 77). On the reverse with Uxbridge arrival c.d.s. (SP 21 77). On 1 Apri 1877, Hong Kong joined UPU. All postal route other than Brindisi was charged 12c while the new route via Brindisi was charged 16c. Therefore, the 16c on 18c stamp was issused by that time for provisional use before the supplies of the QV 3rd issue 16c (Yang 22). The usage examples of this stamp are quite rare with only 24 covers recorded by Richard Norman Gurevitch.
