Kelleher 777. Auktion 15. - 17. November 2022 Los 184 USA Postmeisterausgaben Annapolis, Md., 1846, 5¢ carmine red on white (Scott 2XU1 var), red circular design of the envelope used as a cancel or seal, across the backflap of a folded letter sheet datelined Oct. 27th, 1847, sent to the editor of the Colonization Journal in Baltimore; front endorsed in manuscript at top right "Post Office Business/Martin F. Revell, P.M." with red Annapolis postmark of Oct. 28 and straightline handstamp "FREE"; contents concern removing three names from the list of the journal's subscribers; strong strike, damaged on opening and affected by a tear to the cover, but an incredibly scarce item; accompanied by two 1967 appraisal letters (Perry Fuller and Baltimore Stamp Co.), Fine to Very Fine, with 1961 P.F. certificate noting "it is a genuine post office seal of Annapolis but is not a postage stamp". Scott notes that this circular design, in blue , was used as a postmark, but makes no mention of its use here. An online search reveals only two #2UX1 entires, plus two additional items using the design plus value handstamped in red. This is a unique opportunity to add an Annapolis Provisional item to your collection Ausruf 2.000,00 USD
