| Zusatzinformationen und Suchstichworte: | Principality of Moldavia/Romania: Mi.#2 on Cover I have examined the folded letter sheet franked with an example of the 1858 Moldavia/Romania "Bull's Head" 1st issue 54 Parale Blue on Greenish-Blue horizontally laid paper (Mi. No.2). The stamp is cancelled by a strike of the JASSY MOLDOVA 10/10 (M1) postmark in carmine-red. No arrival postmark is present. The item was an ordinary letter in the first weight step (up to 2.5 dramuri = 8.1 g), in the 2nd distance range (over 8 paste (~125 km) or 16 hours journey) from Iasi to Galati. The rate "54" is noted in pen on the reverse. In my opinion, the stamp and cover are genuine in all respects. The stamp shows large margins on three sides and is clear at the top, and is in very fine condition.. The cover is in very fine condition. The item was described and illustrated in F. Heimbüchler's The Bull's Heads of Moldavia 1852-1862, pages 346-347, #5 . It was previously signed by Hunziker, Pfenninger, Heimbüchler, Todd. Ex Caspary. A scarce item, 19 covers and 1 front single rankings with a 54 parale stamp are recorded from Iasi/Jassy. Iulian Dumitru CHERATA |
